Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Diacerein + eltrombopag is a combination therapy consisting of two small molecule drugs used as a salvage treatment for patients with primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) who are unresponsive to eltrombopag monotherapy. Eltrombopag is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist that stimulates platelet production by activating the thrombopoietin receptor (MPL), while diacerein is an anthraquinone derivative with anti-inflammatory properties, primarily inhibiting interleukin-1 beta activity. Clinical studies have shown that this combination induces higher overall response rates and longer duration of response compared to eltrombopag alone in ITP patients, offering an effective alternative for those not responding to standard therapies[2][3][4][5].
