Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bonacerin is an oral fixed-dose combination of diacerein and glucosamine sulfate, developed by Navana Pharmaceuticals for the symptomatic management of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and joint injuries. Diacerein is an anthraquinone derivative that acts as an anti-inflammatory agent by inhibiting the synthesis and activity of interleukin-1 (IL-1), a key cytokine involved in cartilage destruction and joint inflammation. Glucosamine sulfate is an amino sugar that serves as a fundamental building block for the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans, which are essential components of articular cartilage. Together, these two agents provide complementary actions to relieve joint pain, reduce stiffness, and support cartilage repair and maintenance in degenerative joint diseases.
