Overview

**Dibasic sodium phosphate + monobasic sodium phosphate** is a combination of inorganic phosphate salts used primarily as an osmotic laxative for bowel cleansing prior to colonoscopy, surgery, or rectal exams, and as a phosphate replacement therapy for hypophosphatemia via intravenous administration. It functions by increasing solute concentration in the intestinal lumen, drawing water into the colon to induce diarrhea and evacuation. Available in oral tablets, solutions, rectal enemas, and IV injections, it requires caution due to risks of electrolyte imbalances like hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, dehydration, acute kidney injury, and QT prolongation, particularly in patients with renal impairment, heart failure, or the elderly.[1][2][3][5][9]
