Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dysmef Forte is an oral fixed-dose combination of the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) mefenamic acid and the anticholinergic antispasmodic dicyclomine (also known as dicycloverine). Developed by Omnica Laboratories, it is formulated as a tablet containing 500 mg of mefenamic acid and 20 mg of dicyclomine. Dysmef Forte is primarily indicated for the symptomatic relief of smooth muscle spasms, severe abdominal cramps, dysmenorrhea (menstrual pain), menorrhagia, and gastrointestinal spasms. Mefenamic acid acts by nonselectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis and alleviating pain and inflammation. Dicyclomine acts as an antagonist at muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (primarily M1, M2, and M3 subtypes) on smooth muscle cells, blocking cholinergic transmission and directly relaxing gastrointestinal and uterine smooth muscle.
