Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dicyclomine hydrochloride + simethicone is a fixed-dose combination pharmaceutical product used for the symptomatic relief of gastrointestinal disorders involving smooth muscle spasms and excess gas. Dicyclomine hydrochloride is an antispasmodic and anticholinergic agent that works by antagonizing muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, thereby reducing intestinal motility and cramping. Simethicone is an anti-foaming agent that acts as a surfactant to decrease the surface tension of gas bubbles, allowing them to coalesce and be expelled more easily. This combination is commonly prescribed for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), functional bowel disorders, abdominal pain, and infantile colic. It is manufactured by Crest Lifesciences in various oral formulations, including tablets and suspensions.
