Digoxin + LX4211 is a combination of two pharmacological agents with distinct mechanisms of action. - **Digoxin** is a cardiac glycoside derived from the leaves of the digitalis plant. It increases myocardial contractility and controls heart rate by inhibiting the sodium-potassium ATPase pump in cardiac tissue. This results in increased intracellular calcium concentrations and improved cardiac output. Digoxin is primarily used to treat mild to moderate heart failure and to control ventricular response rate in chronic atrial fibrillation[1][2][4][5][7]. - **LX4211** is an investigational oral small molecule that acts as a dual inhibitor of sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) and sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2). By inhibiting these transporters, it reduces renal glucose reabsorption and delays intestinal glucose absorption, leading to improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus[6][8]. LX4211 has also shown efficacy in reducing insulin requirements for type 1 diabetes[8].
