Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination antimalarial and antiprotozoal medication consisting of dihydroartemisinin (an artemisinin derivative), piperaquine (a long-acting antimalarial), and metronidazole (an antibiotic and antiprotozoal agent). This combination is used for treating patients with both malaria and intestinal protozoal infections. Dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine inhibits the P. falciparum parasite's haem detoxification pathway, while metronidazole is effective against intestinal protozoa such as Entamoeba histolytica.
