Overview

YMC026 is a fixed-dose combination respiratory medication developed by Yuhan Corporation, primarily indicated for the relief of cough and sputum associated with respiratory diseases such as acute bronchitis. It is the code name for **Cofre Syrup**, a widely used antitussive and expectorant in South Korea. The formulation contains four active ingredients: dihydrocodeine phosphate (a semi-synthetic opioid antitussive), dl-methylephedrine hydrochloride (a sympathomimetic bronchodilator), chlorpheniramine maleate (a first-generation antihistamine), and ammonium chloride (an expectorant). Dihydrocodeine suppresses the cough reflex by acting on the medullary cough center, while methylephedrine relaxes bronchial smooth muscles to improve airflow. Chlorpheniramine reduces allergic responses and respiratory secretions, and ammonium chloride facilitates mucus clearance by increasing the volume and decreasing the viscosity of sputum. Yuhan has conducted Phase 4 clinical trials to further evaluate the efficacy and safety of this combination in patients presenting with cough and sputum as primary symptoms.
