Overview

Dimebon + omeprazole is a combination of two small molecule drugs. Dimebon (also known as dimebolin or Dimebonum) is an antihistamine that was investigated for neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's disease and Huntington's disease but development was discontinued after negative clinical trial results. Its mechanism of action is not fully understood but may involve mitochondrial stabilization and weak NMDA receptor antagonism. Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat gastric acid-related disorders including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. It works by selectively inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells to reduce stomach acid production[1][2][3][5][6]. Omeprazole has been marketed under several brand names including Prilosec and Zegerid. There are no approved indications for the fixed combination of these two drugs; however, they have been studied together in pharmacokinetic interaction studies[4].
