Overview
LAS41008 + Fumaderm refers to the comparison or combination context of two fumaric acid ester (FAE) formulations used in the treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis. LAS41008 (marketed as Skilarence) is a purified, single-active-ingredient formulation of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) developed by Almirall. Fumaderm is an established fixed-dose combination of DMF and three salts of monoethyl fumarate (MEF). Both agents function as immunomodulators, primarily by activating the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) pathway and inhibiting the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathway, thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines. LAS41008 was developed to provide a more standardized DMF treatment compared to the multi-component Fumaderm, demonstrating non-inferiority in clinical trials such as the Phase III BRIDGE study.
