This is a combination of dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a potent hallucinogenic tryptamine drug, and normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride solution). DMT is a naturally occurring indole alkaloid found in various plants and animals, including humans. It acts primarily as an agonist at serotonin receptors, especially the 5-HT2A receptor, leading to intense psychedelic effects such as visual and auditory hallucinations, altered perception of time and self, euphoria, depersonalization, and mystical experiences[1][2][3][5]. When administered alone by injection or inhalation (often dissolved in a vehicle like normal saline for intravenous use), DMT produces rapid-onset but short-lived effects lasting 5–30 minutes[1][4]. Normal saline serves as an inert carrier or diluent for parenteral administration; it has no pharmacological activity itself. This combination is used experimentally in clinical research settings to study the neuropharmacology of psychedelics or their potential therapeutic applications[4][5].
