Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Betiden is a topical gel formulation of dimetindene (as dimetindene maleate), a first-generation selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist with antipruritic and antiallergic properties. Originally developed by Ciba (now Novartis) and marketed locally by Farmavita, dimetindene competitively binds to H1 receptors, preventing histamine-mediated effects such as vasodilation, increased capillary permeability, and sensory nerve stimulation. This action rapidly alleviates itching, redness, and swelling. Betiden is approved for the short-term relief of pruritus associated with dermatoses, urticaria, insect bites, sunburn, and superficial first-degree burns.
