Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Dinoprostone + misoprostol is a combination of two prostaglandin analogs used primarily for cervical ripening, induction of labor, and medical abortion. Dinoprostone (prostaglandin E2) acts by stimulating uterine contractions and promoting cervical softening and dilation through direct myometrial stimulation and local effects on the cervix. Misoprostol (prostaglandin E1 analog) also induces uterine contractions, promotes cervical ripening, and is used off-label for labor induction as well as in combination with other agents for pregnancy termination. Both drugs increase the force, frequency, and duration of uterine contractions by acting on prostaglandin receptors in the uterus[2][7][9]. The combination may be considered when enhanced efficacy or specific clinical protocols require both agents.
