Overview

Boostrix-IPV (sometimes referred to as Boostriv-IPV in specific clinical trial documentation) is a reduced-antigen combination vaccine designed to provide booster protection against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and poliomyelitis. Developed by GSK, it contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, three purified pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous haemagglutinin, and pertactin), and inactivated poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. The vaccine is primarily indicated for use in adolescents and adults who have previously completed a primary vaccination series. In the United Kingdom, it was a central component of the "Multiboost" study conducted by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), which evaluated the immunogenicity and safety of co-administering dTaP-IPV with meningococcal serogroup C (MCC) conjugate vaccines and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines. The vaccine works by stimulating the production of specific antibodies against the bacterial toxins and viral components, thereby inducing active immunity.
