A hexavalent combination vaccine designed to provide active immunization against six major infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive diseases caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). This product typically combines the antigens found in a standard pentavalent vaccine (DTP-HepB-Hib) with the inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) derived from the Salk strains (Mahoney, MEF-1, and Saukett). By consolidating these six components into a single injection, the vaccine simplifies pediatric immunization schedules, reduces the number of required needle sticks, and improves overall vaccination coverage. Various formulations exist using either whole-cell pertussis (DTwP) or acellular pertussis (DTaP) components, with major commercial examples including Sanofi's Hexaxim and GSK's Infanrix Hexa.
