This is a **combination vaccine** protecting against five diseases: diphtheria (caused by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*), tetanus (*Clostridium tetani*), pertussis (*Bordetella pertussis*), poliomyelitis (poliovirus types 1, 2, 3), Haemophilus influenzae type b infections, and meningococcal disease caused by *Neisseria meningitidis* serogroup C. It contains diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, acellular pertussis antigens (e.g., pertussis toxin, filamentous hemagglutinin, pertactin, fimbriae), inactivated poliovirus, Haemophilus influenzae type b capsular polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid, and meningococcal C polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid. Administered intramuscularly to infants as a multi-dose series (typically 2, 4, 6 months with boosters), it induces protective antibodies via humoral immunity without providing therapeutic effects. Primarily indicated for routine pediatric immunization in young children (6 weeks to 5 years); similar formulations like Pentacel (Sanofi) or Infanrix IPV+Hib (GSK) exist but lack MenC or differ in conjugates.
