Overview

Infanrix-IPV/Hib is a combination vaccine indicated for active immunisation of infants and young children from 2 months of age against five serious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis (polio), and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b. The vaccine contains purified antigens for each component: diphtheria toxoid, tetanus toxoid, three acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxin [PT], filamentous hemagglutinin [FHA], and pertactin), inactivated polio virus types 1–3 (Mahoney, MEF1, Saukett strains), and purified polyribosyl-ribitol-phosphate capsular polysaccharide from Hib covalently bound to tetanus toxoid. The mechanism of action is to stimulate the immune system to produce protective antibodies against these pathogens without causing disease. Developed by GlaxoSmithKline for pediatric use as part of routine childhood immunization schedules[1][2][4].
