Overview

A **combination vaccine** that provides active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and poliomyelitis. It contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (toxoid and other components), and inactivated poliovirus, all adsorbed onto an adjuvant (typically aluminum-based). The mechanism of action is by stimulating humoral and cellular immune responses against these pathogens, providing immunity primarily by the production of protective antibodies. The vaccine is indicated for children from 6 weeks up to 6 years of age, protecting against all four diseases in a single injection. This vaccine excludes additional antigens for hepatitis B or Haemophilus influenzae type b, which may be present in other combination products.
