DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and acellular Pertussis) vaccine is a combination vaccine used for active immunization against infections caused by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae*, *Clostridium tetani*, and *Bordetella pertussis*. The acellular pertussis component (aP) consists of purified antigens such as pertussis toxoid (PT), filamentous hemagglutinin (FHA), and often pertactin (PRN) and fimbriae (FIM), which provide protective immunity with a lower risk of adverse reactions compared to older whole-cell pertussis vaccines. In Japan, where the IM-PreP study is conducted, DTaP vaccines are traditionally administered via subcutaneous injection, whereas intramuscular injection is the standard in many other regions. Clinical studies evaluate the safety and immunogenicity of DTaP in specific populations, including pregnant women receiving immunosuppressive therapy, to ensure maternal protection and the transfer of passive immunity to infants.
