Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This acellular pertussis vaccine is being developed by the Serum Institute of India (SIIPL) as part of a diphtheria, tetanus, and acellular pertussis (DTaP) combination vaccine. The vaccine contains purified antigenic components of *Bordetella pertussis*, specifically Pertussis Toxoid (PT), Filamentous Haemagglutinin (FHA), and Pertactin, combined with diphtheria and tetanus toxoids. Formulated as a suspension adsorbed on an aluminum adjuvant, its mechanism of action involves eliciting protective antibody responses against these three pathogens. While the DTaP formulation was initially noted in preclinical development and toxicology studies at the NIBSC, SIIPL has since progressed a Tdap booster formulation into Phase II/III clinical trials in India and Germany, demonstrating non-inferior immunogenicity and safety compared to licensed vaccines.
