Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a pentavalent combination vaccine designed for the active immunization of infants and toddlers against five major infectious diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), poliomyelitis, and invasive infections caused by *Haemophilus influenzae* type b (Hib). The vaccine typically contains purified diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (such as pertussis toxoid and filamentous hemagglutinin), inactivated poliovirus (types 1, 2, and 3), and the Hib capsular polysaccharide (polyribosylribitol phosphate) conjugated to a carrier protein, often tetanus toxoid. By combining these antigens into a single injection, the vaccine simplifies immunization schedules and improves compliance. Major commercial versions include Sanofi's Pentaxim and Pediacel, and GSK's Infanrix-IPV+Hib.
