Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The diphtheria vaccine (low-dose) from Biomed-Lublin, often referred to by the shorthand 'd', is a monovalent vaccine containing a reduced dose of purified diphtheria toxoid. It is specifically designed for booster immunization against diphtheria in older children, adolescents, and adults who have previously completed a primary vaccination series. The vaccine is produced by inactivating the toxin from *Corynebacterium diphtheriae* with formaldehyde and adsorbing it onto an aluminum adjuvant to enhance immunogenicity. The use of a low-dose formulation (indicated by the lowercase 'd' in vaccine nomenclature) is intended to maintain protective antibody levels while minimizing the risk of local and systemic hypersensitivity reactions that are more common in older populations with pre-existing immunity.
