A tetravalent combination vaccine designed for the active immunization of infants and children against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough), and hepatitis B. The vaccine contains inactivated diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, a suspension of killed *Bordetella pertussis* organisms (whole-cell pertussis), and purified recombinant hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). It functions by stimulating the immune system to produce protective antibodies against the toxins produced by *Corynebacterium diphtheriae* and *Clostridium tetani*, the various antigens of the pertussis bacterium, and the surface protein of the hepatitis B virus. Typically administered as a multi-dose primary series in infancy, it provides high seroprotection rates and is a cornerstone of pediatric immunization programs in various global regions.
