Overview

Dipipanone + cyclizine is a combination analgesic medication primarily used for the treatment of moderate to severe acute pain. It consists of dipipanone, a potent opioid agonist structurally related to methadone, and cyclizine, an H1-receptor antagonist with anti-emetic properties. The inclusion of cyclizine is intended to counteract the nausea and vomiting typically associated with strong opioid therapy. Historically marketed under the brand name Diconal, the drug is indicated for patients who require strong analgesia but are allergic to morphine. Due to its high potential for misuse and respiratory depression, its clinical use has significantly declined, and it is often classified as 'less suitable for prescribing' in clinical guidelines like the British National Formulary. Branded versions have been largely discontinued, though generic formulations may still be available in specific regions such as the UK.
