Overview

Dipyrone monohydrate + chlorpheniramine maleate + caffeine is a fixed-dose combination (FDC) small molecule drug developed by Brainfarma Indústria Química e Farmacêutica S/A for the symptomatic treatment of the common cold and influenza. The combination consists of dipyrone (metamizole), a non-opioid analgesic and antipyretic that inhibits prostaglandin synthesis through the cyclooxygenase (COX) pathway; chlorpheniramine maleate, a first-generation H1 histamine receptor antagonist that relieves symptoms such as rhinorrhea and sneezing; and caffeine, a central nervous system stimulant and adenosine receptor antagonist that potentiates the analgesic effects of dipyrone. This FDC is currently being evaluated in the Phase III PANAMA clinical trial in Brazil, comparing its efficacy and safety to the reference product Benegrip and placebo.
