Overview

This is a combination therapy of dl-3-n-butylphthalide (NBP) and donepezil. Donepezil is an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor that increases acetylcholine levels in the brain to improve cognitive function in Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. DL-3-n-butylphthalide is a synthetic compound originally derived from celery seed extract, with demonstrated effects on protecting mitochondria, improving microcirculation, reducing oxidative damage, and modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission. The combination has been studied for its potential synergistic effect in slowing cognitive decline and improving activities of daily living in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease as well as vascular dementia and post-stroke cognitive impairment[1][2][7]. Clinical studies suggest that this multi-target approach may offer greater benefit than either agent alone for these indications[1][2][7].
