Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This combination therapy consists of the taxane chemotherapeutic agent docetaxel and an anti-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) monoclonal antibody (such as J591). Docetaxel acts as a microtubule stabilizer, promoting tubulin polymerization and inhibiting microtubule depolymerization, which leads to cell cycle arrest at the G2/M phase and subsequent apoptosis. The anti-PSMA antibody specifically targets the extracellular domain of PSMA, a type II transmembrane glycoprotein highly overexpressed in prostate cancer cells. When combined, the anti-PSMA antibody can be used to deliver targeted cytotoxic effects or radiosensitizing properties (when radiolabeled, such as with Lutetium-177 or Actinium-225) in synergy with docetaxel chemotherapy to treat advanced prostate cancer.
