Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of two taxane chemotherapeutic agents that are often used sequentially in the treatment of prostate cancer, particularly in cases of hormone-refractory metastatic disease. Both drugs function as microtubule inhibitors, binding to tubulin and promoting its assembly into microtubules while simultaneously inhibiting disassembly, which leads to the stabilization of microtubules and inhibition of cellular functions. Typically, docetaxel is used as first-line therapy, and when disease progresses during or after docetaxel treatment, cabazitaxel is administered as a second-line option.
