Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug combination is a neoadjuvant chemohormonal therapy regimen being evaluated by the University of Wisconsin, Madison, for the treatment of high-risk or oligometastatic prostate cancer. The regimen consists of **docetaxel**, a taxane chemotherapy that stabilizes microtubules to induce cell cycle arrest; **degarelix**, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist that rapidly suppresses serum testosterone; and **bicalutamide**, a non-steroidal androgen receptor antagonist. This multimodality approach is administered prior to radical prostatectomy to evaluate pathologic complete response rates and improve clinical outcomes in patients with aggressive localized or limited metastatic disease. The trial specifically investigates the synergy between rapid androgen deprivation and cytotoxic chemotherapy in the neoadjuvant setting.
