Overview

docetaxel + doxorubicin is a combination chemotherapy regimen being evaluated by West China Hospital for the treatment of locally advanced or metastatic poorly differentiated or anaplastic thyroid cancer. This specific application is part of a Phase 2 precision medicine trial (NCT05896280) where treatment selection is guided by in-vitro drug sensitivity testing using tumor-derived organoids. Docetaxel is a taxane that promotes the assembly of tubulin into stable microtubules and inhibits their disassembly, leading to cell cycle arrest in the G2/M phase. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that exerts its antineoplastic effect through DNA intercalation and inhibition of the enzyme topoisomerase II, resulting in DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA synthesis. The combination is intended for patients who have failed conventional therapy or have unresectable disease.
