Overview

Docetaxel + epirubicin is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents frequently used in the treatment of breast cancer, particularly as first-line therapy for metastatic or locally advanced disease. Docetaxel is a taxane that stabilizes microtubules and inhibits their depolymerization, leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Epirubicin is an anthracycline that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, resulting in DNA strand breaks and inhibition of replication. This combination leverages the complementary mechanisms of action from both drug classes to enhance antitumor efficacy. The regimen has demonstrated significant activity against breast cancer with response rates comparable to other taxane/anthracycline combinations[1][5]. Myelosuppression is the most common severe toxicity; close monitoring for infection risk is required.
