Overview

The combination of docetaxel and exisulind has been studied in clinical trials for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This combination represents an approach that pairs a traditional chemotherapeutic agent (docetaxel) with a selective apoptotic antineoplastic drug (exisulind). **Docetaxel** is a well-established taxane chemotherapy drug that works by disrupting microtubule function, which is essential for cell division. It's commonly used in various cancer treatments including NSCLC. **Exisulind** (also known by the tentative trade name Aptosyn) is a sulfone derivative of sulindac that acts as an antineoplastic agent by inhibiting cyclic guanosine monophosphate phosphodiesterase type 5 (cGMP-PDE)[5]. Unlike its parent compound sulindac, exisulind does not affect prostaglandin synthesis[5]. It selectively induces apoptosis in precancerous and cancerous cells while having minimal effects on normal cells[6].
