Overview
The DVS regimen is a combination chemotherapy and immunotherapy protocol consisting of docetaxel, vinorelbine, and sargramostim (GM-CSF), specifically evaluated for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. Developed and studied by Dr. John P. Fruehauf at the University of California, Irvine's Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, this regimen employs a metronomic dosing schedule. Docetaxel (a taxane) and vinorelbine (a vinca alkaloid) are cytotoxic agents that target microtubules to inhibit mitosis and exert anti-angiogenic effects. Sargramostim, a recombinant human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor, is added to stimulate the immune system, potentially enhancing the antitumor response by activating dendritic cells and macrophages. The combination was investigated in a Phase II clinical trial for patients with stage IV melanoma to improve overall survival.
