Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Docusate sodium + sorbitol** is a fixed-dose rectal laxative combination used for short-term relief of rectal constipation and bowel evacuation before selected examinations or procedures. Docusate sodium is an anionic surfactant stool softener that promotes water penetration into dry fecal material, while sorbitol provides local osmotic and lubricating effects that increase stool water content and facilitate evacuation. It is supplied as a rectal solution or enema, with bowel evacuation commonly occurring within approximately 5 to 20 minutes.
