Dolutegravir + abacavir + lamivudine is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication used for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. It contains three active ingredients with complementary mechanisms of action: - Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that blocks the HIV integrase enzyme, preventing integration of viral DNA into the host genome. - Abacavir and lamivudine are nucleoside analogue reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs). They inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase by acting as faulty building blocks for viral DNA synthesis, leading to chain termination and inhibition of viral replication. This combination reduces the amount of HIV in the blood and helps increase immune cell counts, thereby delaying progression to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and reducing risk of HIV-related illnesses.
