This is a hypothetical or non-standard four-drug antiretroviral regimen combining dolutegravir, efavirenz, emtricitabine, and tenofovir. Each component targets HIV replication through different mechanisms: - Dolutegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor that blocks HIV integrase, preventing viral DNA from integrating into the host genome[6]. - Efavirenz is a non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor that binds to reverse transcriptase and inhibits its activity[2][7]. - Emtricitabine and tenofovir are nucleoside/nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitors that act as chain terminators during viral DNA synthesis[2][3]. However, combinations of three drugs among these agents are widely used for first-line treatment of HIV infection in adults and children weighing at least 40 kg[1][5].
