Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Adlarity (donepezil transdermal system) is a once-weekly patch developed by Corium, Inc. for the treatment of mild, moderate, and severe dementia of the Alzheimer's type. Utilizing Corium's proprietary Corplex transdermal technology, the patch provides continuous and consistent delivery of donepezil, a reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. By inhibiting the hydrolysis of acetylcholine, donepezil increases the concentration of this neurotransmitter in the brain, thereby enhancing cholinergic function. This transdermal formulation was specifically designed to bypass the gastrointestinal tract, potentially reducing the incidence of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea associated with oral donepezil (Aricept), while also improving patient compliance through a simplified weekly dosing regimen. It received FDA approval in March 2022.
