donepezil + memantine

Donepezil + memantine is a combination pharmacological therapy used for the treatment of moderate-to-severe Alzheimer's disease. Donepezil is a reversible inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase, which increases the concentration of acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses, thereby enhancing neurotransmission. Memantine is a low-to-moderate affinity, non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist that regulates glutamate activity by binding to NMDA receptor-operated cation channels, preventing overstimulation and excitotoxicity. The University of the Philippines is conducting the MEMORI-AD (Multi-omics Research Initiative in Alzheimer's Disease) study to monitor the efficacy of this combination using multi-omics approaches to identify factors associated with drug response and patient outcomes.
