Overview

Donor blood stem cells + T cells (MDR-101) is an investigational allogeneic cell therapy designed to induce immune tolerance in kidney transplant recipients. Developed by Dr. Samuel Strober and his team at Stanford University and licensed to Medeor Therapeutics, the therapy consists of donor-derived CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells and CD3+ T lymphocytes. The treatment is administered following a conditioning regimen of total lymphoid irradiation and antithymocyte globulin to establish mixed chimerism—a state where the donor and recipient immune systems coexist. This biological state is intended to prevent the recipient's immune system from rejecting the transplanted organ, potentially allowing for the complete withdrawal of lifelong immunosuppressive drugs. Clinical data from HLA-matched patients have demonstrated successful long-term immunosuppression withdrawal without evidence of graft rejection.
