Overview

Donor-derived activated natural killer (NK) cells are an investigational adoptive cell therapy developed by Peking University People's Hospital for the treatment of high-risk or relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). These NK cells are expanded in vitro using a clinical-grade, feeder-free, and serum-free culture system to ensure high quality and safety. Once infused, typically following a course of chemotherapy, these activated NK cells exert potent antitumor effects through direct cytotoxicity and the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. The mechanism involves the recognition of malignant cells via activating receptors such as NKG2D, leading to the release of cytotoxic granules containing perforin and granzymes, which induce apoptosis in the target leukemia or MDS cells.
