Overview

A combination therapy consisting of dopexamine and norepinephrine. Dopexamine is a synthetic analogue of dopamine that stimulates beta-2 adrenergic receptors and peripheral dopamine receptors (D1 and D2), while also inhibiting the neuronal re-uptake of norepinephrine. Norepinephrine is a potent alpha-adrenergic agonist with less pronounced beta-adrenergic effects. This combination is used primarily in the management of septic shock, where it has shown beneficial effects on gastric mucosal blood flow compared to epinephrine alone. The combination works by balancing the strong vasoconstrictive effects of norepinephrine with the inotropic and vasodilatory properties of dopexamine.
