Double antibiotic paste + chitosan is a combination formulation used primarily in regenerative endodontics and dental pulp therapy. The "double antibiotic paste" (DAP) typically consists of metronidazole and ciprofloxacin, omitting minocycline to avoid tooth discoloration. Chitosan's slow-release properties improve the bioavailability of antibiotics while reducing toxicity[1][2][3][4]. This combination is under investigation for use as an intracanal medicament in root canal disinfection—especially for immature permanent teeth—and has shown superior outcomes compared to other carriers such as platelet-rich fibrin[4].
