Overview

This is a combination of two small molecule drugs, doxazosin and celecoxib. Doxazosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist primarily used to treat hypertension and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia by relaxing vascular smooth muscle and the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, leading to improved urine flow and reduced blood pressure[1]. Celecoxib is a selective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing the synthesis of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation, and swelling[3][7]. The combination may be considered for patients who require both antihypertensive therapy (doxazosin) and anti-inflammatory or analgesic treatment (celecoxib). There are known pharmacokinetic interactions between these drugs; specifically, celecoxib can decrease the metabolism of doxazosin, potentially increasing its effects or side effects[6].
