doxorubicin + capecitabine

Doxorubicin + capecitabine is a chemotherapy combination regimen that combines an anthracycline (doxorubicin) with a fluoropyrimidine carbamate (capecitabine). Doxorubicin damages DNA inside cancer cells and stops damaged cells from continuing to grow, while capecitabine is a prodrug that is converted to 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) by enzymes expressed in higher concentrations in many tumors. This combination has shown activity in advanced gastric cancer, metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma, and has been studied in breast cancer. The regimen offers the advantage of oral administration of capecitabine, providing patients with greater independence and improved quality of life compared to intravenous 5-FU administration.
