Doxorubicin + cisplatin is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents, doxorubicin and cisplatin. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II and generating free radicals, leading to DNA damage and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. Cisplatin is a platinum-based compound that forms DNA crosslinks, disrupting DNA replication and transcription, ultimately triggering cell death. This combination exploits different mechanisms of action to enhance antitumor efficacy. The regimen has been used in the treatment of various solid tumors including mesothelioma (notably as part of hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy), hepatoblastoma, osteosarcoma (as part of multi-drug regimens), and other cancers[1][2][4][6]. The drugs are typically administered intravenously in cycles.
