Overview
This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four drugs: doxorubicin (an anthracycline), dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), gemcitabine (a nucleoside analog), and pegaspargase (a modified form of L-asparaginase). This combination is likely used in the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Pegaspargase specifically works by depleting asparagine, an amino acid that leukemic cells cannot synthesize on their own, leading to cancer cell death. Normal cells are less affected as they can produce their own asparagine.
