Overview

Doxorubicin + gemcitabine is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents, doxorubicin and gemcitabine. Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals leading to DNA damage and apoptosis. Gemcitabine is a nucleoside analog that inhibits DNA synthesis by incorporating into DNA during replication, causing chain termination and cell cycle arrest. This combination has been studied primarily in advanced or metastatic breast cancer as well as other solid tumors. The regimen aims to leverage the complementary mechanisms of action for enhanced antitumor activity while maintaining manageable toxicity profiles[1][2]. Both drugs are administered intravenously.
