Overview

Doxorubicin + nivolumab is a combination therapy that pairs a cytotoxic anthracycline (doxorubicin) with an immune checkpoint inhibitor (nivolumab). Doxorubicin is capable of inducing immunogenic cell death (ICD), a specific type of tumor cell death that can trigger an adaptive immune response. Nivolumab is a PD-1 inhibitor that blocks the interaction between PD-1 and its ligands, enhancing T-cell function. The combination is hypothesized to create synergy in the ICD circuit, with doxorubicin's cytotoxic effects potentially enhancing the efficacy of nivolumab's immunotherapeutic action.
