Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**doxorubicin + vincristine + cytarabine + prednisone + bleomycin** is a chemotherapy drug combination regimen composed of five antineoplastic agents, commonly used in the treatment of hematologic malignancies such as lymphoma and acute leukemia. Each component acts via a different mechanism: - **Doxorubicin** is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, blocking DNA replication and transcription and generating free radicals, leading to cell death. - **Vincristine** is a vinca alkaloid that binds to tubulin, inhibiting microtubule assembly and arresting cell division at metaphase. - **Cytarabine** is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA synthesis by competing with deoxycytidine triphosphate as a substrate for DNA polymerase. - **Prednisone** is a synthetic corticosteroid with lympholytic and anti-inflammatory effects, often used to induce apoptosis in lymphoid cells. - **Bleomycin** acts as a glycopeptide antibiotic that produces free radicals causing DNA strand breaks. This combination is not a recognized regimen with a unique protocol name but is closely related in composition to regimens such as COPBLAM-I (which also contains cyclophosphamide and procarbazine) or BACOP (alternatively including cyclophosphamide)[4][7][10]. Regimens that combine most of these drugs are primarily indicated for intermediate/high grade non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma, or acute lymphoblastic leukemia; use in these diseases is supported by multiple clinical studies[11][16][8].
