Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three drugs: - **Doxorubicin** is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates DNA, inhibiting topoisomerase II and generating free radicals, leading to cytotoxicity in rapidly dividing cells. - **Vincristine** is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation in mitotic spindle fibers, arresting cell division at metaphase. - **Methylprednisolone** is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties; it induces apoptosis in certain cancerous lymphoid cells. This combination may be used for the treatment of hematologic malignancies such as lymphomas or leukemias. It differs from the more common CHOP regimen (which uses prednisone instead of methylprednisolone), but the mechanism and intent are similar—combining agents with different mechanisms to maximize antitumor activity and minimize resistance.
